Young Scientists Meeting 2017

Julius Kühn Institute, Siebeldingen

November 8, 2017 – November 10, 2017

You are a student preparing your Bachelor, Master or PhD thesis at the JKI?

You have a PostDoc position at the JKI and your thesis defense dates back less than 2 years?

You belong to the scientific staff of the JKI and you are younger than 40 years old?

Then you may be interested in participating at the 10th Young Scientists Meeting of the JKI!

The Young Scientists Meeting is an annual conference at which you get the opportunity to present your work in form of a talk or a poster. But the difference to other conferences is the audience! It is made up of junior scientists just as you are. This gives you a great chance to meet scientists of your age, to exchange know-how and get connected!

This year the YSM will be held on a new location: at the JKI in Siebeldingen. The location was selected by the young scientists at the last year's meeting.

The last year's panel discussion, concerning the topic “The Future of Plant Research at the JKI” on the YSM 2016 was a great success. Some results from the discussion are now considered to be included in the JKI strategy paper. Since the last year's discussion revealed a need for a further debate especially on the topic of the image of the JKI in public, we will have a panel discussion again. The topic is "The JKI and Social Media - an asset or a liability?". After a keynote held by the press relations office, the participants will have occasion to discuss and debate several options if and how the JKI could be presented in social networks.

Do not miss the opportunity to participate in such a great event and register now for the 10th Young Scientists Meeting!

Abstract submission is open until 29th September 2017 (via e-mail to ysm@julius-kuehn.de).
Templates for abstracts, posters and slides can be downloaded here.

If you are going to prepare a poster, please send your final poster pdf to Sylke Weißenberg (sylke.weissenberg@julius-kuehn.de) for printing until 20th October.

Registration is open until the 13th of October 2017.

On 8th November registration for the YSM is open from 12.00 o'clock. The official opening then starts at 1.00 p. m. The complete program will be published, soon.

Those of you, who have been at the YSM in the past years, might have noticed the new logo. With the new logo, there comes another novelty. This year we will have a panel discussion together with the president of the JKI, Dr. Georg F. Backhaus, concerning the topic “The Future of Plant Research at the JKI”. Therefore, we will form several groups with different sub-topics. The groups will have time to brainstorm, discuss and draw a concept of their conclusions. At the end, a representative of each group will present their group’s results, leading to a discussion and linking of all sub-topics to the bigger picture.

Do not miss the opportunity to participate in such a great event and register for the Young Scientists Meeting 2016 now!
